Robert Thuston Is 2009 Chairman of Birmingham Chapter of United States Green Building Council

Robert Thuston, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED, AP) has been named the 2009 Chairman of the Birmingham Branch of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). Thuston’s term began in January and will continue throughout the rest of the year.
Thuston is a building program specialist with Alagasco and received his LEED AP in July.
The Birmingham Branch of USGBC has 100 members and is one of three chapters that make up the Alabama USGBC. The Birmingham Branch is a new chapter. Prior to this year, Birmingham members were part of the Alabama Chapter.
The USGBC was formed to advance and promote sustainable and environmentally responsible planning, design, construction and operation of the state’s buildings, landscapes, cities and communities.
The purpose of the Alabama Chapter is to:
- Provide regularly scheduled opportunities for members to exchange information with other people having similar interests;
- Raise awareness of Green Building principles and practices among the design, construction and real estate communities as well as the general public;
- Provide forums for the exchange of ideas;
- Form partnerships with other local building related and environmental organizations;
- Promote membership in the USGBC
